The village of Pollara

The Hotel La Locanda del Postino is located on the plateau of Pollara. The Locanda is a small hotel with 10 rooms, furnished in traditional Aeolian style. The faithfully restored old farmhouse that hosts the hotel is settled in the centre of the village. To the west it faces the sea, whit the splendid sunset on the silhouettes of the islands of Alicudi and Filicudi; to the east, it is surrounded by a rocky amphitheatre, witness to what 13,000 years ago was the largest crater of the Aeolian Islands (1 km in diameter). The village of Pollara is known worldwide for the quality of its capers, which grow wild here, and for having been chosen for the shooting of the film 'Il Postino' with Massimo Troisi and Philippe Noiret.

To access the sea in Pollara there is a rock-built stairway, which leads to the 'Balate', a small fishing village built into the volcanic rock from which it can be admired the majesty of the volcano on which the village stands. From the sea, the concave shape of the rock and the light colour of the cliff, clearly shown the volcano in which Pollara is located. Monte dei Porri, which overlooks Pollara, has many footpaths that allow you to reach the summit and enjoy a breathtaking view of the village and all the other islands. Here, hawks, beeches, and the diverse vegetation allows you to be completely immersed in an unspoilt natural environment.
